Western Inspired Boots in the 21st Century. Love 'em.

August 17, 2010

I have to say that I am thoroughly obsessed with this boot. I spotted them in Nordstrom and it was if a lightbulb went off in my head and I had to get them. What I really love about these boots is the lace detail. It gives the old timey – Western look, but they’re still casual enough to wear to work. And the heel is great. They are so comfy. I didn’t get them because once I saw the price tag of over $200, I started thinking of all the stuff that I could buy with $200. Like car registration. Anyway, I am still pining for these shoes. Maybe they’ll be a birthday present to myself? My birthday is on Saturday…. hmm…

Quilting is my new hobby!

July 7, 2010

I recently decided that I needed to pick of a new creative hobby and for some reason, quilting popped into my head. I am not sure why – I don’t sew much, though I own an awesome sewing machine. And I never really liked quilts. Anyway, I figured that this would be a cool project and fairly easy to do. So here are my first attempts at pieces of what may become either placemats, pot holders or a small quilt. You never know what the future holds!

All you quilters out there… got any tips for me?

Sexy Tousled Beach Look? Yes, Please!

July 6, 2010

You ever come home from the beach with salt in your hair and have this amazing tousled look that only comes with a day lounging at the beach? Well, isn’t it a shame when you have to wash it out and your hair goes back to that limp, fine look that you started out with? Lucky for you, Bumble and Bumble makes a Surf Spray.

Great on people with thin, fine hair or people with minimal curl/waves that just want a little boost. This Surf Spray gives your hair that beachy, matte look and adds a lot of lift and volume. All you do is flip your hair spray some and scrunch and voila! You have that beach, sunkissed look. The only downside is that it’s pretty pricey for only 40z… a little over $20. But, if you use it sparingly, then it’s a great deal. It also gives you a medium hold without making your hair feel scrunchy.

Steve Madden Sannibel: On Sale!

July 6, 2010

Nothing says summer to me, more than a pair of white, sophisticated sandals. Maybe it’s just the color white – I associate it with lounging in the Bahamas or Jamaica. I guess it’s because white really brings out your tan and since you’re on vacation you really don’t care if you get it dirty of not (that’s the sensible side of me coming out).

Anyway, I think I may have to snag a pair of these. Throw ’em on with a pair of jeans or wear it with your favorite summer dress. I don’t have to go to the Bahamas or Jamaica, but it’s definitely a way to bring them into my everyday life.

And yay, they’re on sale at Steve Madden!

o    Bamboo is harder and denser than most hard woods, it is16% harder than maple, which is the most common wood used for most cutting boards.

o    After harvesting, bamboo grows back and can be re-harvested every 4 ½ years.  Bamboo does not need re-planting.  Most hardwood have a 30 to 60 year growth cycle.

Bacon Chocolate Chip Pancakes

June 17, 2010

Bacon chocolate chip pancakes are simply amazing. And why hasn’t this trend caught on in pancake houses across America? I mean, you eat chocolate chip pancakes with bacon on the side, but combining them bring this breakfast treat to an entire new level. Thankfully, Mo’s has come up with this brilliant mix that makes it easy for you to throw together on the weekend without much effort, but to much satisfaction. Keep in mind what a great present this makes for those of you who love bacon. Could it get any better? I didn’t think so…

Lip Balms are my friends.

June 17, 2010

Just like the title says, Lips Balms are my friends. I carry them everywhere I go and I always have one on hand because there is nothing more annoying than flaky dry lips. I’m not talking about Chapstick or probably most of those that you grab last-minute at the check-out counter. I’m talking about natural, organic lip balms that actually hydrate your lips and improve them. Below are a few of my favs, but if you have one in particular that you can’t live without, I’d love to hear what it it is!

1. Caudalie Lip Conditioner: What I like about this is that it has soothing anti-oxidents and anti-aging benefits. And since you’re lips are always out in the sun and exposed to the harsh weathers, it’s important to keep them hydrated.

2. Soothing Lip Balm by Origins: I know, I know.. it’s a little pricey at $15 a pop, but it’s well worth it. I keep this one in my bathroom and apply liberally before going to bed. I love that it has shea and cocoa butters and the texture is just a little bumpy. Plus, it always makes my lips feel wonderful!

3. Yu-Be Lip Therapy: Yu-Be is an made from an old Japanese cream formula that is moisturizing and made from glycerin and Vitamin E. What I really love about this formula is that it doesn’t contain sulfates, parabens or phtalates and is pretty affordable. For $5, you really can’t beat this quality product!

The iWallet = iPod + Wallet

June 17, 2010

Got an iPhone and hate having to carry that plus your wallet around. Then you, my friend, are lazy. No, just kidding. You need this handy iPhone wallet-case that ALSO holds credit cards and some cash. Brilliant! It’s practically all you need. And if you don’t have an iPhone, this makes a great present for your iPhone-carrying friend of yours. For $17 bucks, who can resist? Get ’em on Amazon!

Wedding Season: It's All About the Bride (and the dress!)

June 9, 2010

So far, this year, I’ve been invited to 4 weddings. I went to the first last weekend in Jacksonville, Florida and this weekend, I’ll be heading to Sacaramento for Wedding #2. I love weddings because as much as I love to celebrate the party and see my friends/family, I love the fashions. The wedding is all about the brides and their beautiful wedding dresses.

From sweetheart neckline, to halter tops or cap sleeves, wedding dresses are a way for the bride to express herself while showing off the style that she looks best in. I am a sucker for sweetheart necklines and classic styles with a little bit of beading and bling. I loved Carrie’s dress in Sex and the City, but let’s face it – not many of us could pull that off!

What do you think about the dresses below? I LOVE the first one! What is your favorite style of wedding dress? Do you go to weddings for the party or fashion? And last but not least, if you’ve got a crazy wedding story to tell, leave it in the comments!

Groupon – Saving $ has never been easier!

June 3, 2010

Ya ever heard of Groupon? It’s a site that lists discounted coupons! Yes, that’s right, you can actually buy a coupon (gift certificate) worth a specific dollar amount for.. LESS!

Here’s how it works: You sign up here. Check for discounts in your area. When you see something that you want, you buy it. So you actually get a gift certificate that you can use at a restaurant or store and pay less than it’s worth. Whew, what a bargain! BUT there’s a catch! Your card won’t actually be charged unless there are enough people who also want that same discount. Hence the name GROUPON – you gotta work together as a group to get the discounts. No, they don’t have to be your friends (there are millions of people on Groupon), but it doesn’t hurt to refer friends! (If your friends buy something, you get a $10 certificate) Check it out and lemme know what you think!

You ever used a groupon? Share your story in the comments below!

UPDATE: LivingSocial is another great site like this. I just bought a round trip to Catalina for $39 bucks! regularly $79!

Ugandan Shea Butter by LATHER – Simply amazing!

June 3, 2010

I was on a layover in Miami last weekend and of course, couldn’t help but shop! I checked into this accessory / beauty / spa store and found these luxurious lotions and soaps from Lather. The first product I tried was their Ugandan Shea Butter. Now after 5 hours on a plane, my skin was parched so I need some hand cream. This thick, creamy, non-oily shea butter absorbed into my hands almost immediately. I was impressed. Then about 2 hours later and a couple hand-washings later, the softness was still noticeable. I was shocked – no other hand lotion lasts for that long, do they?

So that pretty much had me convinced. I bought a tub of this shea butter and man, am I glad that I did! It’s amazing. I only have to reapply once when I’m at work (in a very very dry office) and my skin stays moisturized. Not to mention, the amazing smell! Highly recommend!

Beachwear Cover-Ups

May 20, 2010

What do you cover-up with when you go to the beach? Probably shorts and a tank, or a sundress. But what if you’re on vacation and you want to look nice and just a little stylish? Then, the tunic is your friend!

I’ve searched high and low for some tunics for my Florida vacation coming up and I’d like your opinion on which one you like best, ok? Thanks!

1. Embellished Tunic from Victoria’s Secret: Casual, yet very chic.

2. Embroidered Boho Tunic: Fun and playful, yet very stylish

3. Elan Embroidered Tunic: Casual and classy.

4. Lillie Top: I know they have this paired with jeans, but I think it’d make a fab beach cover up, don’t you?!

Bandeau Bikinis – The ultimate tan line!

May 13, 2010

So summer is here. Yay! And with summer comes laying out at the beach – bliss! And with that comes ugly tan lines. So, to avoid ugly tan lines, you gotta go bandeau.

Lovin’ this Starfish bandeau suit from Victoria’s Secret.

This  bright striped bandeau suit is also pretty hot. And it’s on sale! Score!

This breezy dot underwire from J. Crew is super cute!

Jeggings = Jeans + Leggings

May 12, 2010

Jeggings are the hot new thing out there. Stylish jeans and comfortable leggings. What more could you ask for?

The great thing about jeggings is that you get the style and polished look with half the effort. In my opinion, they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. These below are on sale for $95 bucks (from $180) from J Brand jeans. I love the fact that you can throw them on under a dress, wear ’em with flip flops and a sweater or pair ’em with a cute tank.

And somehow, they tend to make your legs look smaller and your thighs just a bit more firm. Just an added bonus!

If you’ve got a pair of jeggings, let me know how you wear them. Leave a message in the comments!

Happy Mother's Day!

May 9, 2010

To all you wonderful Mothers out there…. Wishing you a fabulous and happy Mother’s Day! It’s because of you that we’re all here! Here’s a picture of me and my mom 🙂

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

May 4, 2010

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and I know there are some of you who haven’t even put thought into what you’ll get for your wonderful mother! Well, don’t worry, because I’ve done some legwork for you so you can just sit back, relax and take all the credit for these great ideas. Really, it’s ok – you can take the credit.

1. Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler: If your mom is a gardening Guru, like my mom is, then this may be the perfect gift for her, especially if she lives out in the country (like my mom does). This sprinkler is motion-activated to turn on when an animal runs in front of it and save your mom’s garden from being eaten by garden critters. Plus, it’s a pretty funny concept and sure to get a laugh at the least bit!

2. Totally Bamboo Butcher Block: This is a great present if your mom is an avid cook. Sure, she’s got tons of cutting boards, but they’re probably plastic (BAD!), or just the normal everyday block from the store. This Butcher Block from Totally Bamboo is more than a board – it’s a statement. It makes a great everyday board or serving platter for big parties. The best part is that you can just leave it out all the time for some serious chopping! And if you don’t want such a big commitment, check out their Utility Greenlight Boards (they’re dishwasher safe!).

3. Mint Chocolate Chip Cupcake Bath Bomb: Whose mom doesn’t like mint chocolate chip cupcakes? And a bath? Then you’re sure to score extra brownie points with this one. Light your mom some candles, throw this yummy bath bomb into the tub and let her sit back and relax. And YOU do the dishes and vacuum for once!

4. LeSportsac Weekend Duffle Bag: Got a mom who loves a weekend getaway? Of course you do – who doesn’t like to take a mini vacation? Well, in order to have a complete mini-vacation, you’ll need to have all the accessories, including the perfect bag to go along with it. LeSportsac has tons of different colors and patterns to make your mom’s weekend getaway complete. Now all you’ll have to do is convince your Dad to get her the actual weekend package!

J.Lo Looks Stunning.

May 4, 2010

How amazing does Jennifer Lopez look in this zuhair murad gown? I think it’s the simpleness of the style of the dress decorated with sparkly sequin, diamonds and pearls that make this simple style stunning. Not to mention, her skin color is the perfect complement to this. Wow. Need I say more? What are your thoughts?

ShoeDazzle by Kim Kardashian

May 3, 2010

If you’re a shoe-holic and can’t get enough heels, boots, flats, sandals, then you may just need to join Kim Kardashian’s ShoeDazzle. Usually I wouldn’t endorse anything by her and her sisters, but this is actually a pretty good deal. You sign up for $39.95 per month (think of it like a magazine subscription) and are guaranteed a selection of shoes to fit your style handpicked by one of the 5 stylists. If you don’t like any, you can get a new batch to choose from or skip that month without being charged. The stylists pick your style based on a questionnaire that you fill out. If you do like one of the shoes suggested by them and you pick it, you score ’em for only 39.95 including shipping! What a deal!

Anyone out there who’s tried ShoeDazzle and have some reviews? Leave them in the comment section. Thanks!

Healthy Homemade Granola

May 3, 2010

I have always loved granola — the plain kind — since I don’t like too much dried fruit or raisins in my yogurt or cereal. So today, I tried first hand at making my own homemade granola. It turned out fantastic – just sweet enough and packed with nuts and nutrients. Here’s the recipe that I used. Note that I did follow a recipe, but true to myself, switched it up a ton, so these measurements may be a little off:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1/2cup ground flaxseed
  • 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • dash of salt
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • splash of water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then stir in the wet ingredients. Spread evenly on a baking sheet and bake for about 30-40 minutes, stirring constantly until brown. Let cool and there you have it! Fresh homemade granola!

If you’ve made a variation of this or another type of granola, let me know in the comments!
