Music Freaks! Here are some books to read this summer.

June 18, 2009

I haven’t done many book reviews, but just to let you know, I do read! A couple books that I’d like to recommend is “Bumping Into Geniuses: My Life Inside The Rock and Roll Business” by Danny Goldberg and  Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles,” by Geoff Emerick.

Now both of these books are music related and very intruiging. Bumping Into Geniuses is a really great story of how a young Danny Goldberg broke into the music scene in NYC back when rock and roll music was just starting to become popular. He recounts stories of life on the road with Led Zeppelin as their PR guy as well as manager of Nirvana and Courtney Love. Not to mention, he helped jumpstart Bonnie Raitt’s career, all the while being a record executive and raising a family on his own. Whew!

Here, There and Everywhere is a story from fly on the wall perspective. That fly was Geoff Emerick, who was probably the luckiest kid in London in 1962 to land a low paying, entry level job with the Beatles. Mind you, this was before The Beatles were anything at all – in fact, he tells his stories of the first time he ever heard them and the making of their first album. You learn who was the leader in the group, who was the quietest, who was rude all the time and who hung with the roadies. The stuff that went on in the studio was quite interesting, to say the least and Geoff tells all. From the crazy parties and ridiculous requests for orchestras to Yoko Ono’s bed. And if you’re at all into recording or know something about the recording process, like me, he tells in detail how he miked each album and song – what new and forbidden mike tricks he used to get the sounds from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, and more!

Origins Plantidote Mega Mushroom Face Serum – Is it any good?

I am one of the millions of people who suffer from eczema. It’s not too bad at times, but I always get flare ups in the face. Because of this, I’ve taken a liking to all natural skin care products. The lady at the Origins counter swore by this stuff from Dr. Andrew Weil. It’s a face serum that’s made specifically to combat inflammation from a blend of Hypsizygus ulmarius, Cordyceps and Reishi Mushrooms, Ginger, Turmeric and Holy Basil. It’s not cheap as it’s $66  for 1.7 fl. oz.

HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some feedback!

Dressy Ballet Flats from Aldo, 50% off!

June 17, 2009

I was shopping today and found these adorable ballet flats from Aldo. Now, usually I’m not a ballet flat kinda person, but someone walking by actually said how great they looked on my feet! I love the sparkles and stones to really dress up an outfit without losing the comfort. Plus they’re great to just slip on and wear to work or a dinner. The really great part is that they’re on sale! 50% off! They’re only $34, what a bargain, huh?

Ped Egg – for better or worse?

June 17, 2009

Last winter my mom bought me a Ped Egg and since I was wearing boots most of the time, I did not need it. Come summer, I’ve been walking the hell out of my feet. I used this for the first time a few weeks ago and it’s amazing. Last night I even used it on my boyfriend and he loved it. I know, you’re thinking that the grater-ish bottom looks like it hurts, but it feel really good actually. Try it out for yourself!

Feathered Headbands – love ‘em or leave ‘em?

June 12, 2009

feathers

I love this trend because headbands are so fun. Well, I haven’t wore them since 5th grade, but I am determined to get some cute feather headbands. They can make just a regular jeans and tshirt getup look fancy and flashy.

Anyone know of cool places to buy some? What do you think of the trend?
