A Peacoat would be nice.

October 23, 2008

I think I have become obsessed with buying coats/jackets and maybe that’s because it’s 46 degrees outside right now. I love peacoats as much as the next person, but having a peacoat that is both flexible and comfortable and STILL warm… well, now that’s just a bargain.

This particular coat is from American Eagle for approx 70 bucks, but you can get a 20% off with the online coupon code, and FREE shipping. Did I hear a bargain? It comes in light grey and navy. I love the gray but I always buy neutral colors. Maybe I’ll go for navy this time. Thoughts?

Which do you like best?

October 23, 2008

Leave me a comment below and tell me which sweater I should purchase. Both are from Gap and both are within the $48-$54 range – not a huge difference. The grey sweater also comes in light greyish-purple. Since I opened my credit card at Banana Republic, I have had the urge to shop at their sister stores. Hell, they even gave me a 10% off coupon. I am such a sucker.

Hey Celebs, Recycle those paper cups!

October 22, 2008

Almost in every picture that you see a celebrity, you see them with a starbucks mug. Now I don’t know – maybe it’s just trendy to have that overpriced mug in their hands, but how about buying a reusable mug from Starbucks so you don’t have to waste paper? Celebs are always talking about saving the planet yet they waste waste waste! Here’s an idea, reuse. Can you imagine all the paper cups that could be saved? I got this Hawaiian Starbucks mug as a gift earlier this year and I’ve literally gotten stopped on the Subway by New Yorkers asking me where they can get it. You can buy it on eBay for $16. It’s well worth the money.

Homemade Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing

October 22, 2008

Exactly one week ago from today was Andrew’s (my boyfriend) birthday and I made him homemade carrot (and walnut) cupcakes with homemade icing. It was tough without a hand-mixer, but they turned out terrific! Recipe is below. Got any good recipes for amazing cupcakes? Comment below!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 extra-large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 3 cups grated carrots (less than 1 pound)
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

For the frosting:

  • 3/4 pound cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/2 pound unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pound confectioners’ sugar

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Beat the sugar, oil, and vanilla together in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add the eggs, 1 at a time. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. With the mixer on low speed, add 1/2 of the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Add the grated carrots, raisins, and walnuts to the remaining flour, mix well, and add to the batter. Mix until just combined.

Line muffin pans with paper liners. Scoop the batter into 22 muffin cups until each is 3/4 full. Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes then reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F and cook for a further 35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a rack.

For the frosting, cream the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add the sugar and beat until smooth.

When the cupcakes are cool, frost them generously and serve.

My 5 Favorite Gloves

October 22, 2008

With the cold season starting to loom over us, I guess it’s that time to take out the winter clothes. I love accessorizing, especially with gloves. Here are my top five favorite winter gloves of all time:

1. These Merona Cable armwarmers from target are a whopping $10.99 which makes them a great bargain. The reason I enjoy these is because you can still do practical things without taking them off – play your iPod, type, paint your nails, hehe.

2. These Fairisle gloves are great because of the length. It bugs me when my wrists get freezing cold because my gloves aren’t long enough. These solve the problem and they come is 3 fun colors.

3. Since Banana Republic is my new favorite store, I had to add some stylish cable knit gloves from them. Warm and fuzzy, these are not just everyday gloves- oh and I love the belt on them.

4. If you liked the first pair of gloves, but still want separated fingers, these Fingerless Gloves are for you. And what a fabulous color! Gap always has the best plain clothing staples.

5. Last but certainly not least, I had to put in some fancy fancy Coach gloves…. driving gloves, perhaps. Chic, leather and super soft…..

So here is my question. Which kind of gloves do you like and why? What is your favorite? Leave me a comment let me know!

Britney’s Womanizer: HOT or NOT?

I got a deal at Banana Republic!

October 20, 2008

I’m usually not an impulse buyer but yesterday while walking by Banana Republic I saw this jacket and I had to have it. I didn’t fit into a size small (too big) and extra small was too small. Also the jacket was $250. After searching and searching and 2 stores later, I found the same jacket in the petite section of another BR. I quickly grabbed it. Turns out that up until yesterday they had a 30% off outerwear sale! When my jacket rang up at the register it was only $175…then of course I had to open up a BR credit card to get the extra 20% off and I got it for a grand total of $140. Boy, am I proud of my purchase.

Also when I signed up for the new card, I got a coupon book and here’s a tip, for all the online shoppers, use the promotion / coupon code NEWCARD for GAP, Old Navy or Banana Republic for an online 10% discount.

Hot Pink Oven Gloves!

October 20, 2008

I’ve been way into cooking for quite some time, and every birthday I get cooking supplies…most PINK because that’s my favorite color for gadgets and acccessories. This birthday I got these pink oven gloves. My first thought was that they are too fluffy to be practical, but after 2 months of using them, they are the best. Here’s why – they are super soft, very very heat resistent (which oven gloves should be) and  best of all, they have individual fingers for easy handling!
